





The patient does not succeed in resisting repetitive ideas, compulsive images and impulses.
Obsessive acts or rituals are constantly repeated although they are not useful for performing important tasks. People who suffer from this obsessive-compulsive disorder feel this condition as a prevention against some improbable event, which will cause them pain or which will bring disgrace to themselves. When those obsessive acts are suppressed the patients´ fear is increased.
Therefore, a combined treatment of psychotherapy, relaxation exercises and medicines, which bring the levels of serotonine to normal without causing addiction, has proved to be quite effective
